Tang Contemporary Art
Oct 04 - Oct 28, 2018
A solo exhibition 'Untitled Poems of Theodore Rousseau' by Thai artist Natee Utarit was held at Tang Contemporary Art, Bangkok from 4th to 28th October 2018. This time, a series of paintings that was created in the Fontainebleau forest in France from spring to autumn of 2017 was exhibited.
Upon entering the exhibition hall, it was a space surrounded by many trees, as if it was inside a forest. In each painting, the same part of the trunk of different oak trees, which was the subject matter, was depicted, and you could appreciate the change in trunk each time. In the quiet venue, like in a forest surrounded by trees, we were able to steadily feel the Fontainebleau forest that he expressed.
Natee Utarit refers to Théodore Rousseau (15th April, 1812 - 22th December, 1867), who was one of the leading Barbizon painters. The Barbizon School, which painted naturalistic paintings that took place in the nineteenth century, is a school of painting that moved away from traditional religions, myths, and other historical painting subjects and practiced the painting of rural landscapes. Natee Utarit finished this series, like painters of the time by observing the local natural environment in the Fontainebleau forest, which attracted attention as a subject of painting in the 1820s.
Natee Utarit began to be interested in natural paintings in the 1990s, and developed his landscape style at various stages throughout his artistic career. Through abstract expressions, he has established a style that looks like a storyteller, and has been engaging in the further improvement of his techniques and re-organization of the landscape.
This latest series features a choice of integrating elements of the oak tree trunk. The combination of aesthetic choices and conceptual messages leads to his art by returning the natural reality of the Fontainebleau forest to the audience.
While facing nature, Natee Utarit focuses on the relationship between the concept of landscape painting and the perspective of the world or space, which are the universal essence and subject.
"I experienced it during production freshly and clearly. Everyone has a different perception of reality and completeness."

'Untitled Poems of Theodore Rousseau' was a solo exhibition that created a space where you can confront nature, depicting nature in a modern way like the Barbizon school painters used to.
