“LOVE IS LOVE” No border in love ~ The shape of LGBTQ’s love depicted by Sudaporn Teja

Thai
Sudaporn Teja

Sudaporn Teja, a contemporary artist who paints abstracts with pale color paints in layers. Having earned a bachelor's degree Fine Arts from the Faculty of Fine Arts and Architecture, from Rajamangala University of Technology Lanna and a master's degree in Fine Arts (Painting) from Chiang Mai University, she participated in private exhibitions in Bangkok and Paris, as well as many group exhibitions in Taiwan and Singapore. And in recent years, the issue related to LGBTQ* has greatly influenced her works. Let us introduce her artwork, which also participated in a large exhibition "SPECTROSYNTHESIS II – Exposure of Tolerance: LGBTQ in Southeast Asia" held in BACC, Bangkok, in 2019.

* LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer)

Sudaporn once had a LGBTQ best friend, however he died. He had a partner of the same gender, and his partner served to Sudaporn’s best friend with great devotion until his death. “Love is not only between men and women.” She was very impressed when she saw it up close, which was the reason why she became involved in LGBTQ.

"LOVE IS LOVE"

Striked by the shape of LGBTQ's love, Sudaporn met and interviewed many LGBTQ people in various circumstances to express their suffering and the legal rights of same-sex marriage in Thailand in her art. As a memory of her interaction with them, the Polaroid photographs that captured the people who cooperated with her interviews contain very unique figures. Among them there was blind man, and later Sudaporn painted pictures with Braille written on the Canvas so that the blind can also enjoy her art by touching.

There were some words, such as "LOVE IS LOVE," "Destiny," and "Somewhere Over the Rainbow," as the messages to them, who nurture love as the same human being.

In other her works, we also see her experimental attempts such as purchasing some shady ointment by mail order that has the effect of reducing breasts for women who yearn for sex conversion to men, and using it as a paint.

There is no gender in color

Sudaporn Teja's paintings are characterized by beautiful colors with shades. When I asked her about the image of color, she answered like that;

"Colors have no gender, and colors are languages that come from emotions."

"The colors of the same system overlaid on many layers are similar and not the same."

Her future activities

She experienced a painful incident in which a man whom she met in interviews in LGBTQ killed himself. It's a tragedy that the suffer of being LGBTQ made him so. She will start to work on his death in order to raise the question of whether those who can be pushed into the social framework must choose to die.
In addition to this, she is also creating paintings that capture Thai legends in a unique way. How her unique world of colors will unfold in the future, the next solo exhibition is highly expected.
